Celebrating Kwanzaa at Children's Museum Houston offers families an enriching opportunity to learn about and participate in this important African American cultural celebration. The event features hands-on art workshops where children create traditional Kwanzaa crafts, an interactive African drumming circle that introduces kids to rhythmic traditions, and educational activities that teach the seven principles of Kwanzaa (Nguzo Saba) in age-appropriate, engaging ways. This special post-Christmas event provides a meaningful cultural experience that celebrates African heritage, community values, and the importance of family - making it both educational and fun for children of all backgrounds.
Children participate in hands-on art activities creating traditional Kwanzaa crafts, learning about the symbolism of the kinara (candleholder), mkeka (mat), and other cultural elements through creative expression.
Kids join an interactive drumming circle led by experienced instructors, learning basic rhythms and experiencing the joy of traditional African music and community participation.
